Spanish design studio Masquespacio is behind the conceptual design of NOVU WAFFLE — a cute little eatery in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The brand approached the studio with a specific objective to develop a fun and immersive space for NOVU WAFFLE. This new establishment in Riyadh represented an expansion for the brand following the success of their first shop, which functioned solely as a takeaway service.
Clad in the brand’s signature blue and yellow color palette, the shop’s façade is predominantly doused in an icy pale blue hue. Its windows and front doors feature a rounded rectangular shape, with the windows fitted with gridded frames that nod to the look of waffles.
This design feature extends to the inside of the shop as well. The interior design employs a mostly monotonal visual language, punctuated with pops of color. Within this setting, a prominent central rectangular structure, constructed from bricks, serves as a dominant element that envelops the seating area. The brickwork is specifically arranged to evoke the characteristic square indentations of a waffle.
Spanning the 100-square-meter establishment, the gridded patterns are consistently repeated. These patterns appear on the ceiling light panels, walls, furniture and decor. This repetition creates a cohesive visual theme throughout the space. Adding accents of color are hanging structures made of translucent yellow material. These elements introduce a soft, warm tint to the otherwise cool-colored environment. The translucent yellow also echoes the butter yellow tiles found on the other side of the counter area.
