A man was killed Monday afternoon in Norco after being dragged and ejected during a vehicle theft, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s officials.
Deputies responded to a call of the theft in progress just before 12:30 p.m. at a gas station on Hidden Valley Parkway. Witnesses told authorities a male suspect got in the driver’s seat of a vehicle while the owner was partially in the back seat. The suspect drove away with the victim still in the car, dragging and ultimately ejecting him.
Paramedics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities found the stolen vehicle a short time later, and a person believed to be involved in the incident has been detained. The Sheriff’s Department said the investigation remains active, and have not released further details.
Deputies set up a large crime scene to investigate — spanning a mile stretch of Hidden Valley Parkway, the gas station, and an area in Riverside near Polk Street and Magnolia Avenue, which investigators say is connected to the Norco incident.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
Anyone with additional information or video footage related to the case is encouraged to contact authorities.
