Losing Stephen Curry to injury was supposed to be the nail in the coffin for the Golden State Warriors, but a tightly-contested Game 3 shows their series against the Minnesota Timberwolves is far from over.
With just under eight minutes remaining in Game 3, the Warriors held an 82-77 lead and seemed poised to pull out a fantastic upset that would allow Curry more time to heal and potentially get back for the end of the series. Unfortunately, not having their calming captain on the floor resulted in four consecutive misses and two turnovers, vaulting the Timberwolves to an 86-82 lead, which they would not relinquish. Jimmy Butler led the team in scoring with 33, adding seven rebounds and seven assists, while reserve forward Jonathan Kuminga added 30 off the bench.
In tightly contested games like these, it’s often the team with the best player that comes out on top. Such was the case in Game 3 for the Timberwolves, as superstar guard Anthony Edwards scored 36 points to will his team to victory. Of those 36 points, 13 came in the fourth quarter, on 4-for-6 from the field (3-for-5 3-pointers). Julius Randle had a fantastic game as well, scoring 24 points to go with 10 rebounds and 12 assists, becoming just the second Timberwolves player to have a playoff triple-double, joining legend Kevin Garnett.
