Arizona is looking to bounce back from an 8-1 loss on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team was held scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when Jose Herrera brought home a run with an RBI double off Ben Casparius. Zac Gallen took the loss, going 5.2 innings and allowing four earned runs while striking out five.
As for the Giants, Sunday saw the team drop an extra-innings thriller against the Twins, losing 7-6. Tied at five runs each heading into the 10th, David Villar’s RBI groundout looked like it would give San Francisco the win, but Minnesota answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Diamondbacks are expected to send Merrill Kelly to the mound. He’s 3-2 on the year with a 4.08 ERA, but has improved in his past three appearances. The Giants are expected to counter with Justin Verlander, who is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA this year.
