Summary

  • Future, Metro Boomin and Kendrick Lamar are being sued by Rodney O over sample royalties
  • Rodney O claims no clearance for the version with version and lack of writing credit
  • Metro Boomin’s rep states the sample was cleared and that they had paid $50,000 USD

Future, Metro Boomin and Kendrick Lamar are facing a lawsuit over their 2024 collab “Like That.” Rodney O, whose “Everlasting Bass” is sampled, alleges that he isn’t receiving his royalties from the Drake and J. Cole-aimed diss track.

Legal documents obtained by TMZ Hip Hop state that while Epic Records did reach out to Rodney O to strike a deal, the label did not receive full clearance to release the version with Dot. He added that nobody checked with him if he had any relationship with Drake, and that he was not given his writing credit when the song was nominated for the GRAMMYs.

Rodney O is also suing Barry White’s estate, as his samples was included in Ye’s “Like That” remix.

Metro Boomin’s rep told TMZ Hip Hop, however, that sample received the clearance it needed. They assert that they also paid a total of $50,000 USD to use the track legally. The producer’s rep add that Rodney O’s real issue should be with the estate of White, who may be the one holding on to the royalties.

“Like That” appeared on Future and Metro’s joint studio album WE DON’T TRUST YOU. It went on to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and received the Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance nominations at the GRAMMYs.
