PHOENIX — Multiple Tempe roads are closed Monday in the area of Arizona State University due to graduation activities.
ASU’s two main commencements are being held at Mountain America Stadium, with the ceremony for graduate students starting at 9 a.m. and the undergraduate event set for 7:30 p.m.
What Tempe roads are closed for ASU graduation?
The following road closures were scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until 11 p.m.
- Packard Drive in both directions between College Avenue and Universiyy Drive.
- Sixth Street westbound at Rural Road.
- Veterans Way in both directions between Sixth Street and College Avenue.
- College Avenue in both directions between Sixth Street and Veterans Way/Fifth Street.
- McAllister Drive in both directions between University Drive and Terrace Road.
- Northbound Rural Road between Rio Salado Parkway and University Drive.
- Westbound Rio Salado Parkway at McClintock Drive.
- Southbound Scottsdale Road/Rural Road between Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway.
- Westbound University Drive between Rural Road and McClintock Drive.
- Traffic exiting from either direction of the Loop 202 Red Mountain freeway at Scottsdale Road can only turn north.
Anybody traveling around Tempe on Monday is encouraged to take public transportation to avoid traffic and parking issues.
The East Valley suburb has 13 local bus routes, six free Orbit circulators, the Tempe Streetcar and nine light rail stops. (Be aware that multiple bus routes are being detoured until end of service Monday.)
Park-and-ride lots can be found at the following Valley Metro light rail stations in Tempe:
- Dorsey Lane/Apache Boulevard.
- McClintock Drive/Apache Boulevard.
- Price Freeway/Apache Boulevard.
The Dorsey Lane/Apache Boulevard station has a Tempe Streetcar connection.
A new web tool called Tempe TRiP, which helps travelers make transportation and parking plans, was launched in time for ASU’s graduation.
