Summary

  • The 20th anniversary of the iPhone in 2027 will be marked by an Apple “product renaissance,” according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
  • In 2027, Apple is rumored to release a “mostly-glass, curved iPhone” and the first foldable iPhone.

On May 11, tech expert Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, published by Bloomberg, revealed that 2027 will be a big year for Apple, entailing a “product renaissance” featuring major design changes.

Among the most anticipated possibilities is an allegedly “mostly glass, curved iPhone – without any cutouts in the display.” Though Apple began experimenting with predominantly glass designs with the iPhone X, the 20th model is expected to take it to the next level, possibly hiding the camera and Face ID technology behind the screen.

While competitor Samsung has already extended its display down the sides of its phones, experts aren’t sure whether Apple will follow suit. Some point to Apple patents from as recent as 2019, and as far back as 2013, exploring all-glass designs with a continuous curve that forgoes the sides altogether.

According to Gurman, other products set to be unveiled in 2027 include Apple’s first foldable iPhone and Apple’s first smart glasses, rivalling Meta and Ray-Ban’s recent innovation. The newsletter emphasized Apple Intelligence’s major role in future Apple innovations, citing that the smart glasses and even Apple’s AirPods may be equipped with the company’s artificial intelligence, using additional cameras for context gathering.

While 2027 may seem a long time from today, enthusiasts can expect more details to surface as the iPhone’s 20th anniversary approaches. Stay tuned to Hypebeast for further developments and
