After an entertaining week at the Truist Championship, Sepp Straka shot a disciplined 2-under 68 on Sunday to step into the winner’s circle for the second time this season and lift the trophy at Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Straka survived a final-round pairing with Shane Lowry after both players entered the day at 14-under-par. Lowry and Straka were neck-and-neck all round long and were tied at 16-under with just three holes to play in regulation.
While Straka remained solid, making par on each of the last three holes, Lowry faltered. The Irishman made a bogey on the par-3 16th hole and the par-4 18th to finish two back.
Justin Thomas, looking for his second win of the season, made a late charge before a bogey on No. 16 ended his chances of winning. He finished two back of Straka and tied Lowry for second place.
After the round, Straka spoke about the emotions of closing out such a big tournament.

“It’s hard to eat, you just feel kind of nauseous,” Straka admitted. “Can’t feel your arms, legs, whatever. You’re just fighting through it but that’s kind of what makes it fun. When you’re pulling off shots with that feeling, it makes it really special.”
Straka now has two wins this season, becoming just the second multi-time winner this season alongside Rory McIlroy. He also won back in January at The American Express.
He has also been on a bit of a run at the signature events so far this season. In addition to this win, the Austrian recorded a top 15 finish at The Players Championship and landed in the top five at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
His excellent play this season has vaulted him to second on the FedEx Cup standings, trailing only McIlroy.
This will give the 32-year-old plenty of confidence heading into next week’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club. He missed the cut at the second major of the season in 2024, but had one of his best finishes in a major with a T-7 at the PGA back in 2023.
With the form that he is in at the moment, Straka will enter the upcoming major as a dark horse candidate to contend for the title.
