While many might dread the thought of rain on their wedding day, one couple who weren’t going to let a storm get in the way of their special day left their photographer speechless with what they did next.

As a photographer, Annie Ruby Tuckett, 28, from Portland, Oregon, has captured plenty of special moments and played a role in countless ceremonies. But the wedding of Ashley and Mason in May 2024 will certainly live long in the memory.

The wedding, which was held in Cincinnati, Ohio, was predominantly outdoors with a large tent for shelter. Unfortunately, Tuckett told Newsweek that it “started drizzling” while taking photos of the bridal party, so everyone had to rush for cover. In turn, the ceremony was delayed because the chairs for the guests “were soaked.”

“Once the wedding planner and her team got them dry, the sun came out,” Tuckett said. “It was the most beautiful lighting for the ceremony because there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, so the wedding proceeded like normal.”

However, when Tuckett tried taking photos of the bride and groom after dinner, the rain started pouring like she’s never seen before. As she took cover under the tent, she was stunned by what the newlyweds chose to do instead.

Tuckett said: “The entire sky went dark, and the raindrops were huge. We all came back inside to dry off and to talk about what our plan was (because everything under the tent was soaked). But they didn’t even care. They didn’t try to avoid the storm—they danced in it.

“Nothing was planned; it was just a pure, unfiltered celebration. Guests saw the bride and groom wet, and they all ran out from the tent to join them. They dropped the pressure of it all and just lived. Everyone was barefoot, laughing, dancing and soaked.”

Tuckett was sure to capture plenty of photos of the happy couple and their guests jumping around in the middle of a downpour. If that wasn’t enough, the bride and groom even lay down in the puddles, while the groomsmen slide across the wet grass in their suits, which made for great footage captured by videographer Taylor Abbott.

It was an incredible spontaneous moment, which has become “a core memory” for Tuckett. Needless to say, the photos look like they’re straight out of a movie.

“There were zero complaints from anyone, just connection,” Tuckett said. “There were so many times I sat back and watched with tears in my eyes, wishing I could experience something this meaningful and raw with my family and friends.”

It wasn’t just a brief moment either, as the wedding party stayed outside for the duration of the storm.

Tuckett shared footage of the occasion on TikTok (@annierubyy) as well as some pictures she managed to capture. Social media users can’t get enough with the carefree nature of this wedding, leading to more than 17.8 million views and 3.6 million likes on the TikTok post.

The online reaction is beyond anything Tuckett expected, and she’s loved sharing this extraordinary moment with the world.

“I had never been more excited to edit photos in my entire life. When I finally sat down and looked through them, I just knew these were going to be different because they were memories you could feel,” Tuckett told Newsweek.

She continued: “Being a part of that wedding was special and something I’ll never forget. These photos remind people what love and life really look like, and people love them because nothing was curated, buttoned up, posed or polished.”

Internet users have hailed the clips and photos from the wedding, leading to more than 17,300 comments on the TikTok post already.

One comment reads: “A wedding that feels like the best moment of a rom com.”

Another person wrote: “It’s giving About Time wedding scene.”

While one TikTok user replied: “this is the first time I’ve seen wedding photos that I’ve genuinely thought, I wish I was there!”
