EXCLUSIVE: Fox is continuing with its animation fix. The network has renewed three of its animated series – Grimsburg, Krapoplis and Universal Basic Guys.
This follows its bumper deal to renew long-running hits The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, as well as returning series American Dad, for four more seasons.
Grimsburg, which stars Jon Hamm, is returning for Season 3, Krapopolis returns for Season 5 and Universal Basic Guys is back for Season 3.
Grimsburg, which premiered in January 2024, centers on Marvin Flute (Hamm), who may be the greatest detective ever to catch a cannibal clown and correctly identify a mid-century modern armoire. But there’s one mystery he still can’t crack — himself. To do that he must return to Grimsburg, a town where everyone has a secret or three, and redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow detectives, his ferocious ex-wife and his lovably unstable son.
Erinn Hayes, Rachel Dratch, Alan Tudyk, Kevin Michael Richardson and Greg Chun also star.
Produced by Bento Box Entertainment and owned by Fox Entertainment Studios, it was created by Catlan McClelland and Matthew Schlissel, who serve as consultants. Hamm exec produces alongside Connie Tavel as well as Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady of The Jackal Group. Chadd Gindin is executive producer and showrunner.
Krapopolis is a renewal darling; the Dan Harmon-created show was renewed twice, for seasons two and three before it even premiered in September 2023. Ahead of the second season premiere, it was picked up for Season 4 and now is coming back for Season 5 ahead of its third season.
Krapopolis is set in mythical ancient Greece and tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series centers on Deliria, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. As petty as she is powerful, Deliria is only interested in defending civilization if it means she’ll get more worshipers out of it than her frenemies up on Mt. Olympus.
It stars the likes of Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry.
Created by Harmon, who exec produces, it is produced by Bento Box Entertainment and owned by Fox Entertainment Studios. Alex Rubens is showrunner and exec produces alongside Steve Levy and Eric Kaplan.
Universal Basic Guys, which premiered in September 2024, has been renewed for its third season ahead of its second season premiere. It centers on two brothers, Mark and Hank Hoagies (Adam Malamut), who lose their jobs to automation and are given $3,000 a month in a new basic income program. Now, they’re using their free time and free money to find purpose in a world where they’re no longer needed.
Talia Genevieve, Fred Armisen and Ally Maki also star.
The series is produced by Bento Box Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television. Adam and Craig Malamut created the series and serve as executive producers and showrunners. Shane Kosakowski also executive produces.
The only animated series on Fox that has not yet been picked up is The Great North. The series, which stars Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate and Will Forte, premiered its fifth season in December
Disney Television Studios produces the Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, Wendy Molyneux and Minty Lewis-created show.
President Eric Schrier recently told Deadline that it was “still under consideration” at Fox. “I don’t think Fox has made a final determination on it; it’s another show that we really love. It’d be great for it to continue, but I understand if they’re not able to,” he said.
