For many years, to wear long jorts was to invite controversy; conventional wisdom held that the material and the length just didn’t work together. Well, folks, we’re here to tell you that’s simply not true—extra-long jean shorts are back in the conversation this season, and this popular denim trend is looking better than ever.

Most notably, the Copenhagen-based cool-girl brands Skall Studio, OpéraSport, and Han Kjøbenhavn all showed the silhouette for spring. But we first noticed the trend on style insiders during the past few Fashion Weeks, where editors, buyers, and influencers styled their picks with billowing button-downs, body-skimming tanks, and relaxed tees. Plus, thanks to the growing popularity of capri pants, wide-leg jeans, and barrel denim, the world is primed for long, baggy bottoms. Ready to hop on the look? Here’s where to get your own pair, plus how to style it for maximum impact.

How to style long jorts

The key to styling long denim shorts is leaning into them—they’ll never blend into the background, but that’s a good thing. At the easiest level, just wear them as you would a shorter pair; start with a boxy white T-shirt, tube socks, and court sneakers, and throw on a trench coat or a thin sweater if you need a layer. Swap in a rugby shirt and slim loafers for a slightly more elevated take on this basic formula.

If you’re in the mood to get a little more creative, try thinking of your jorts (especially long, voluminous Bermudas) as a denim skirt, and style them accordingly. Big sunglasses, a white button-down, and ballet flats will get you through dressy dinners and summer workdays alike. Or try a ribbed tank top and slouchy knee-high boots (or even cowboy boots) before summer really gets going; it’s an incredibly chic silhouette that’s easier to pull off than it looks.

Headed to a music festival? Throw on an oversized graphic tee, oval sunglasses, and your most beat-up pair of white sneakers. On the other end of the spectrum, when you’re headed to a lunch meeting or a day at the office, go with a white blouse, a slightly oversized blazer, sculptural earrings, and kitten heels. You can even take jorts in a boho direction by putting on a sheer top, layered necklaces, stacked bangles, and trendy clog sandals.
