Nicole Kidman is a woman who knows the power of an all-black look. The actor has worn head-to-toe black over and over again throughout her decades-long career, including at last year’s Venice International Film Festival, the Academy Museum Gala, and the Governors Awards. Even at the Met Gala earlier this week, Kidman wore an inky black Balenciaga gown to complement her short hair transformation.

It’s a new length and color for the star.

Black is considered by many to be a timeless color, as well as a seasonless one. It doesn’t matter if temperatures are rising—black is still in. The latest example? At the Academy of Country Music Awards on May 8, Kidman stepped out in a sharp all-black look courtesy of her stylist, Jason Bolden.

Kidman, who was in attendance at the event to support her husband, the country singer Keith Urban, wore a tailored, mock-neck leather top paired with slim fit black trousers which featured a wispy wrap at the waistband giving the illusion of a skirt. The look is a masterclass in contrast—the rigidity of the leather a perfect foil for the airy fabric adorning her bottom half.

But the the skirt-trouser hybrid is the true star of the show, and an unstoppable trend for the spring/summer 2025 season. Copenhagen was already ahead of the trend last fall, with a multitude of guests at the city’s fashion shows wearing them, although it’s only now that the trend is really making an impact on the red carpet.

Nicole Kidman’s look, by Monse, further proves that the trend is here to stay—and also gives a few pointers for how to style it. The key here, according to Kidman, is simplicity, and letting the garments stand on their own without drowning them in extra accessories. The actor’s shoes were the icing on the cake: a simple black flat with a sharp toe. In black, of course.
