MORGAN COUNTY, Ala (WHNT) — The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says a Somerville man was arrested Friday on multiple child pornography charges.
MCSO said James Oliver Canter, 49, of Somerville, was charged with five counts of possession of child pornography with intent to disseminate. Authorities said Cantro was arrested after he was found with several child sex abuse images on his person during a search at a rehabilitation and recovery center on Highway 36 near Hartselle.
The sheriff’s office said investigators, along with the Alabama Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office for the 25th Judicial Circuit, executed a search warrant Friday. According to MCSO, the search was a part of an ongoing investigation into child sex abuse images.
MCSO said during the search, 25 people were detained, and of those, seven were determined to have unrelated outstanding warrants and were arrested. The sheriff’s office is not releasing those names at this time.
“The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office continues to maintain a heightened focus on crimes against children,” Sheriff Ron Puckett said. “Through the effort of our Investigators, we have made numerous human trafficking, child abuse and child pornography arrests. This will continue.”
MCSO said due to the number of residents and size of the property, the Morgan County Sheriff’s S.W.A.T. team, including Priceville PD, Morgan County Sheriff’s Drug Enforcement Unit and Fugitive Unit, assisted.
Jail records show Canter is being held in the Morgan County Jail on a $375,000.00
