MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said a man was arrested Friday after barricading himself in a camper after deputies attempted to serve a warrant.
MCSO said around 2:30 p.m. Friday, deputies and drug task force agents attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant for a parole violation for a murder conviction out of Tennessee in the 800 block of Greenbriar Cove Road in Union Grove. Authorities identified the man wanted as Todd Eugene Dalton of Tennessee.
The sheriff’s office said that as deputies approached a camper on the property, Dalton shot at them. MCSO said deputies then retreated to cover and called for the county SWAT team.
Authorities said negotiators were able to secure the release of a woman from the camper and eventually get Dalton to surrender. MCSO said Dalton was transported to the Marshall County Jail and will be held on a felony warrant pending any charges in Marshall County.
Sheriff Phill Sims praised his deputies for their conduct during the incident.
“I’m very proud of how our deputies and officers reacted today,” he said. “The incident ended with the suspect surrendering and no one was injured. I appreciate the response of the countywide SWAT team. Our negotiators did an outstanding job talking with the suspect, ending in his surrender to officers. We will be working with the district attorney’s office on any additional charges. Thank you all the agencies who responded today.”
