A video of a dachshund playing alone at the dog park instantly shattered people’s hearts.
Jordan Mandel, who is known on social media as @jordmandel, recently brought her dachshund to the dog park. Hopeful her dog, Frank, would socialize with the other canines, Mandel quickly learned it wasn’t Frank’s day as the other dogs kept playing without him.
In the heartbreaking TikTok video Mandel posted earlier this week, Frank sat by her feet and watched as the other dogs ran past. He eventually got the courage to step out onto the grass in an attempt to make friends, but no dog gave him the time of day. He instead spent the time running around and entertaining himself.
He would inch closer to the dogs and take off, thinking they were following him. But no one paid him any attention. This left Mandel sobbing, but trying to stay positive, she wrote the caption: “It’s fine bc Frank is more of a people person anyway.”
With over 8.3 million views and 1.7 million likes on TikTok as of Friday, people flooded the comment section with tears for Frank’s experience at the dog park.
“The way he’s running, thinking someone is chasing him. Ok I had enough of this,” wrote a viewer.
Looking on the bright side, someone commented: “Don’t think this!!! He’s just happy to be there.”
Another demanded: “Pls find him a new dog park, this is ruining me.”
Thankfully, this video is not a representation of how it always goes for Frank at the dog park. Mandel told Newsweek via TikTok that every time they visit the dog park, it is “hit or miss.”
“My sister and I take him to the dog park that has two areas, one for bigger dogs and one for smaller dogs,” she said. “He usually prefers the big dogs, probably because he thinks he is one, and they’re a little less active, which he likes.”
However, if Frank spots other dachshunds, he’ll usually gravitate toward them. Corgis too. So he isn’t always friendless at the park. But why these specific dog breeds? Mandel has a theory.
“I think it’s the similar body shape that attracts them to each other,” she said.
