Hearts have well and truly been melted by a rescue dog seeing her new backyard for the first time—and there was no stopping her zoomies.
TikTok user Taylor Madison (@taylor_madison18) shared the adorable video of her pup after leaving the shelter and seeing the new backyard that’s all for her. She certainly didn’t waste any time before exploring the outdoor space, as the rescue pup sprinted around to make the most of her new garden.
The adorable clip was captured two years ago when she was initially adopted and was reposted on TikTok on April 23. Madison, from Long Island, New York, explained that it was her pup’s “2-year gotcha day anniversary” and she couldn’t resist reliving that joyous moment.
After the footage was shared online, internet users were left delighted by the dog’s adorable reaction. In just a matter of days, the clip has gone viral with more than 271,800 views and over 54,100 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
Newsweek has contacted Madison via Instagram for comment.
Alongside the clip, Madison wrote in the TikTok caption: “We love our baby so much and can’t imagine life without her.”
The outdoor space is sure to keep the rescue dog entertained, as there’s plenty of grassy terrain, flowerbeds which are perfect for digging, and even a large swimming pool. In the video, the excited pup even climbed up the steps to the pool to get a closer look at what’s inside.
Fortunately, there is a gate which limits access to the pool and prevents her from getting into the water.
Being outside doesn’t just give a dog extra space, but it can provide plenty of mental benefits too. The mental and physical exercise that a backyard provides can lead to better behavior when they’re inside the house too, according to the website PetMD.
Owners can also add to those benefits by providing stimulating activities when their dog is outside. PetMD suggests playing a variety of fetch games (ball launchers, rope toys, or automatic launchers could all be used to mix things up) or playing water games if you don’t mind the smell of wet dog.
Alternative options include agility activities to help dogs learn a new skill or to feel accomplished. If you’re looking to get their brain more active, engaging the dog in scent work can put their senses to the test. PetMD recommends placing several boxes around the yard with treats in some of them and allowing the dog to explore the yard and sniff out the treats.
