Lana del Rey didn’t take her new husband, Jeremy Dufrene, to the Met Gala on May 5. But her look did include a subtle tribute to the Louisiana alligator tour guide captain.
The dress code for the evening was Tailored for You, and celebrated the history of Black dandyism. Del Rey’s dress was black Valentino couture and, at first glance, the star of the show was the oversized bow at the shoulder, which also included an eye-catching feather detail.
But then, if you looked closely at del Rey’s tightly coiled hairstyle, you might have noticed the small alligator hairpin. If you know anything at all about Dufrene, whom del Rey married in September 2024, you know that he gives alligator tours in the Louisiana bayou by trade.
It’s quite possible that the Met Gala simply isn’t Dufrene’s kind of thing, which is perhaps why del Rey walked the blue carpet alone. But it’s definitely sweet that the singer decided to include a little nod to her new hubby with her choice of accessories.
Lana del Rey and Jeremy Dufrene’s relationship caught everyone by surprise when rumors of their romance began circulating in August of 2024. A fan caught the pair holding hands at a music festival in Leeds at around the same time the Daily Mail reported seeing them shopping together at Harrods in London. In September, the Mail published photos of their low-key wedding in the Louisiana bayou. Reportedly, the couple first met when del Rey took one of Dufrene’s boat tours back in 2019.
While it definitely isn’t a secret anymore, the couple clearly still prefers to keep their relationship on the down low. Dufrene doesn’t tend to make public appearances with del Rey, but she will occasionally give him a shout out on her social media—such as when she included him in a couple of pics in an Instagram carousel posted on April 4.
