One of the best looks of the 2025 Met Gala came from inside the house. Of course, I’m talking about Vogue’s red-carpet host La La Anthony.
In honor of this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrating the cultural impact and sartorial evolution of the Black dandy, Anthony dressed in archival Off-White by the late designer Virgil Abloh. The 43-year-old actor and TV personality held court on the red carpet, conducting celebrity interviews while dressed in a recreated look from Off-White’s Fall-Winter 2020 collection.
Apropos of the “Tailored For You” dress-code, La La Anthony wore an archival piece featuring a white tulle dress over a strapless black bustier and tuxedo pant, creating the effect of a half-gown, half-suit look. Anthony finished off the look with a pointed shoe and plenty of diamonds.
“It’s an actual piece of fashion history,” Anthony told Vogue of the piece. “The full-on gown, mixed with a sharp tailored pant, is a completely unexpected contrast that makes the look unforgettable. It’s glam but with edge—so me.”
Virgil Abdoh was the men’s artistic director of Louis Vuitton and founder of luxury streetwear brand Off-White when he died of a rare form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma, at 41 years old.
“Virgil was more than a designer,” Anthony told Vogue. “He was a visionary, he was my friend, and someone who changed the entire game for so many of us. I wanted to carry his legacy with me throughout the evening to remind people of the doors he opened and the culture he built. It wasn’t just fashion: It was love, history, and respect wrapped up in a beautiful garment.”
