PHOENIX — A Chandler veteran struck gold after hitting one of the largest jackpots at a Valley casino on Saturday.
The man identified only as Michael H. won a $1,033,590 jackpot on a Wheel of Fortune slot machine at Gila River Resorts & Casinos – Santan Mountain.
It is the fourth million-dollar jackpot awarded from Gila River Resorts & Casinos.

Michael is an Army veteran and a retired American Airlines employee. He works as a shuttle driver for a senior living community, according to a spokesperson for the casino.
He usually spends his Sundays driving the residents to the Santan Mountain casino.
On the day he won the jackpot, Michael planned to head out to Rocky Point for a vacation with his wife Betty and friends.
A last-minute cancellation from their dog sitter threw those plans for a loop.
Betty convinced Michael to make a trip to the casino instead.
“I’m glad I listened to my wife. We didn’t plan on visiting the casino today, but we did and now we’re leaving big winners,” Michael said in a Monday announcement.
The couple plans to use the winnings to buy a new house and spend more time visiting their grandchildren who live out of state.
