PHOENIX — Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes signed the state on to two more multistate lawsuits seeking to block recent Trump administration actions on Monday.

One was to stop the dismantling of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the other sued the Trump administration for halting the development of wind energy.

The two new lawsuits bring the total number of cases Arizona is involved in against the Trump administration to 16.

Arizona is also part of the legal effort to prevent Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency from accessing federal payment systems and thwart Trump’s attempts to end birthright citizenship and institute a sweeping freeze of federal funding, as well as several other lawsuits.

Details about health department lawsuit Kris Mayes joined

The first of the two multistate lawsuits Mayes joined is comprised of 19 other attorneys general asking the court to stop Robert F. Kennedy Jr., HHS and other Trump officials from further dismantling health programs.

The coalition, which accused the Trump administration of abandoning states to face health crises without federal support, is also seeking the restoration of key programs, such as the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which provides grants to states like Arizona to help low-income households afford their energy bills.

“Programs like LIHEAP and Head Start aren’t luxuries — they are lifelines for Arizonans. They keep families cool in our summer months, help children get a fair start in life and provide critical support in every corner of our state,” Mayes said in a Monday news release. “The Trump administration’s reckless dismantling of HHS threatens to rip these essential services away from the people who need them most.”

Latest of the 16 lawsuits filed against Trump Arizona joined about wind energy

The other multistate lawsuit Mayes joined Monday alleges that President Donald Trump is harming state efforts to secure diverse and affordable energy sources, reduce emissions of harmful air pollutants and meet clean energy goals.

“I know we have at least three major wind projects in Arizona right now, probably totaling hundreds, if not more than a thousand, megawatts,” Mayes told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday.

The coalition of 18 attorneys general want the court prevent the Trump administration from delaying or preventing wind energy development.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Heidi Hommel contributed to this report.
