HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A cooler air mass is forecast to remain positioned over the Southeast region for the start of the upcoming week. This cooler air will support temperatures nearly 10 degrees cooler than average for this time of year.
The cooler temperatures are all thanks to the current weather pattern.
Above the surface, a weather pattern known as the “Omega Block” has set up across the United States. The Omega Block looks like the Greek letter omega (Ω), with an upper air pattern of two cut-off lows and a high in the middle,
With the upper-level low currently situated over the Tennessee Valley, we see unsettled weather along with cooler temperatures.
Heading towards Wednesday, the high pressure will begin to shift east, allowing slightly warmer air to filter into the region.
Highs on Monday are forecast to reach the upper 60s to 70 degrees across the area. The normal high temperature for Huntsville is 80 degrees. Temperatures will gradually warm back into the mid to upper 70s by late week.
Along with the increase in temperatures, rain chances will be on the rise as well. The chance for widespread rain showers and downpours looks to return Tuesday night into Wednesday.
