The Golden State Warriors have had two chances to eliminate the Houston Rockets to advance to the second round of the postseason, but they’ve come up short both times. This includes Game 6 despite the game being played in the friendly confines of Chase Center.

Now the Warriors and Rockets will be heading to a Game 7 to determine who will advance to face the Minnesota Timberwolves. The experience the Warriors have in these types of situations should favor them, but the Rockets are feeling very confident after two straight wins.
Houston made life very tough on the Warriors in Game 6, using a zone defense to take Golden State out of rhythm. It seemed to work as the Warriors shot just 13-for-30 against the Rockets’ zone.
Heading into Game 7, Warriors star Stephen Curry knows that the team will need to be more focused if they want to win. The former league MVP offered a plan of attack to counter the Rockets defensive schemes.
“There’s a reason they’re playing a zone for a whole half pretty much,” said Curry, who shot 9-for-23 and had 29 points and seven rebounds. “They’re trying to force a certain type of shot. I took probably four heavily contested deep 3s just to try to will us.
“If they’re going to do this and they’re going to play zone and make certain guys shoot it, then it’s the same way we talk about all season long, regular season, playoffs. … If you have a shot, take it. … You’re out there, be aggressive. Look for your shot. We’ll live with it.”
The Warriors are at their best when the ball is moving around the perimeter, setting up strong 3-point shot attempts. Golden State has the personnel on the roster to find success, but the Rockets have done an excellent job of limiting them over the past few games.
If the Warriors want to come away with a win in Game 7, they will need a strong effort from their stars. Curry has been great in Game 7s over his career, averaging 32.6 points in these games over his career.
Curry scored 50 points just two years ago against the Sacramento Kings, helping Golden State to advance. The Rockets are a young team, but they will be ready to go in this game.
Both sides will be looking to make a statement, and fans should be in for an entertaining contest.
