Top Horses to Know at Kentucky Derby
Journalism (7-2) has been the favorite. Coming out of the No. 8 post, the colt would give trainer Michael McCarthy his first win in the Kentucky Derby, as well as jockey Umberto Rispoli. His last appearance was a win in the Santa Anita Derby.
Sandman (5-1) has been another top choice, but no horse has ever won the derby from the No. 17 post. The beautiful gray colt from Tapit is 3-1-2 in eight starts. Unfortunately, he didn’t win any of his three starts at Churchill Downs as a 3-year-old.
Trainer Bob Baffert is back at the derby this year after his suspension was lifted by Churchill Downs. He had two entries, but Rodriguez scratched due to a foot bruise. He still has Citizen Bull (15-1) coming out of the No. 1 post.
Some of the other horses to watch include American Promise (12-1), Luxor Café (13-1), Tiztastic (18-1), Render Judgement (12-1) and Sovereignty (10-1).
