ATLANTA, Ga. (WHNT) — Organizers for the 2025 Publix Marathon announced that the course was short of the full marathon distance.

Runners who competed in the March 2 Publix Marathon/Half Marathon weekend learned that they didn’t actually run the full 26.2 miles.

On April 13, the Atlanta Track Club, the host of the race, announced that the marathon was short by 554 feet, or 168 meters. The club said this was the result of an unexpected race-week road construction that led to a series of misplaced turnaround cones in Grant Park, near the 20-mile marker.

Because of this, the marathon course will not be officially certified. This impacts everyone, but specifically those who ran the course to qualify for the 2026 Boston Marathon. Official race times will not be changed, but race times cannot be submitted for qualifying consideration because the race will not be certified.

2026 Boston marathon qualifying times are as follows:

“Final finish times were impacted by anywhere from 36 to 87 seconds, depending on race pace. More details can be found here,” the track club said.

On behalf of everyone here at the Club, I sincerely apologize to those who have been affected.

Rich Kenah, CEO of Atlanta Track Club
