Following CBS‘s The Equalizer cancellation Friday night after five seasons, star and executive producer Queen Latifah has addressed the series’ fans. In an Instagram post, she reflected on her run as Robyn McCall on the show, which she and her producing partner Shakim Compere executive produced through their company, Flavor Unit.

“Stepping into a kick-ass role like Robyn was everything I hoped it would be,” she wrote. “Shakim and I at Flavor Unit are always excited to bring these kinds of roles and projects to life—and then we just hope you love them as much as we do. The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal.”

Queen Latifah went on to thank the series’ cast, crew, writers and producers before turning to the fans.

“Y’all have been so loyal, so loud, and so ride-or-die — and that’s exactly why we keep doing this,” she wrote. “We can’t thank you enough. It means the world to us.”

And for those who already miss her as Robyn, Queen Latifah had this to say to them, “don’t worry — I’ll be back kicking ass in something new real soon. Can’t wait to share it with you.”

As Deadline reported today, it came down to the wire, but CBS ultimately decided not to renew The Equalizer for what would’ve been a 13-episode sixth and likely final season. This Sunday’s (May 4) Season 5 finale will now serve as a series finale.

A reimagining of the classic 1980s series, The Equalizer starred Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn.

With the series, the hip hop icon became only the fourth Black woman to headline a primetime network drama.
