No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers will take the floor as a WNBA player for the first time on Friday night as her Dallas Wings take on the Las Vegas Aces in a game set to be played in South Bend at Notre Dame.

Bueckers, fresh off leading UConn to the national title, will now look to turn around a Dallas Wings team that finished with the league’s second-worst record in 2024. Dallas traded away star forward Satou Sabally this offseason and saw Natasha Howard leave for Indiana in free agency, setting the stage for a new-look Wings team.
The Aces had an eventful offseason, moving on from former No. 1 overall pick Kelsey Plum, who was traded to the Sparks as part of a three-team deal that landed Jewell Loyd in Vegas. Loyd is used to playing a high-usage role, so it will be interesting to see how she performs in the Aces system.
Why is this game in South Bend? Because both teams feature notable Notre Dame alum. For Vegas, it’s Loyd and Jackie Young. For the Wings, it’s star guard Arike Ogunbowale, whose ability to hit timely big shots won a national championship for the Irish.
