Guy Ritchie‘s next project is with Amazon MGM Studios for the sequel to Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
Gylenhaal has been confirmed to reprise his role as Dalton, who is an ex-UFC fighter. The film marks Ritchie and Gyllenhaal’s third collaboration together and their second with the studio after Ritchie’s The Covenant. The script for the sequel is written by Will Beall. Currently the plot for the second Road House film is kept under wraps but producers of the film will include Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner, as well as Gyllenhaal for his Nine Stories Productions with Josh McLaughlin. Ivan Atkinson will executive produce.
The first film followed Gyllenhall’s character as he struggles to make ends meet. Trouble seems to find him everywhere even after he seemingly catches a break after the owner of a Florida Keys roadhouse finds him sleeping in his car and becomes the bar’s bouncer. He finds himself wrapped up in the wars of outlaws and bikers. The sequel was announced by the studio last summer when it was in the beginning stages of development. When the original film launched on Prime Video last March, it broke records for the streamer, reaching almost 80 million viewers across the globe. The project started out as a reboot of the 1989 classic starring Patrick Swayze of the same name.
The sequel does not yet have a release date.
