EXCLUSIVE: European sales, production and financing company mk2 Films and international fund manager IPR.VC have confirmed their first investment collaboration on Marie Kreutzer’s upcoming feature Gentle Monster, her follow-up to critically acclaimed historical drama Corsage.
It marks the first joint operation under the partners’ multi-year slate financing deal, which was announced last September.
“Our joint slate was inspired to support daring, authored cinema with global resonance. Marie Kreutzer’s Gentle Monster is the perfect embodiment of that inspiration,” said mk2 films Managing Director Fionnuala Jamison.
Paris-based mk2 Films will also manage international sales on Gentle Monster, in a move that continues the company’s collaboration with Austrian director Kreutzer following its successful sales, festival and awards campaign for Corsage in 2022.
“We are incredibly excited to support Gentle Monster as the first project in our collaboration with mk2 films,” said Andrea Scarso, Partner at Helsinki and London-based IPR.VC.
“This partnership is built around a shared belief in championing exceptional storytelling, primarily from European voices, that can resonate with audiences around the world. It reflects our ambition to work with creative talents who bring fresh perspectives and strong artistic identities.”
Kreutzer’s Gentle Monster, which is produced by Alexander Gehr and Johanna Scherz, will take the spectator on the unsettling journey of an internationally renowned pianist who moves her family from Munich to the countryside and uncovers life-shattering truths about her partner. Casting for the A-list female lead is currently underway.
Following on from this first collaboration, mk2 Films and IPR.VC say they are “actively looking to support more audacious, globally distinctive voices, whether from European auteurs or international and US-driven projects.”
Cannes regular mk2 Films will be out in force at the festival this year. It will present six films in Official Competition: Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value, the follow-up to The Worst Person in the World; Kleber Mendonça Filho’s political thriller The Secret Agent; Mascha Schilinski’s haunting debut Sound of Falling; Hafsia Herzi’s The Little Sister; and Carla Simón’s Romería.
Founded in 2014, IPR.VC has helped finance more than 50 productions to date across North America, the UK, and Europe.
Headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, with an office in London, it has raised more than $200 million across three content funds launched in 2015, 2019, and 2023, with backing from institutional investors, pension funds, family offices, and non-profit organisations.
In early 2025, The European Investment Fund committed €25M ($28.4M) to the latest of these, consolidating IPR.VC’s position as the largest independent Film and TV investment fund manager operating in Europe.
Following initial success with Nordic scripted projects, including Netflix series Bordertown, IPR.VC has broadened its scope in recent years, forming long-term strategic alliances with U.S. and European production companies, such as A24 (Civil War, The Legend of Ochi, Materialists, Eddington, Mother Mary, Marty Supreme), XYZ Films (Blackberry, Skywalkers: A Love Story, The Wasp), and European studios mk2 Films and Gigglebug Entertainment.
