A sleeping pug’s reaction to being woken up by his dog groomer has left internet users in hysterics.
It’s often said that you shouldn’t wake a sleeping baby, but perhaps that rule should apply to Gus the pug too. His mobile dog groomer, Sarah, shared a hilarious video of what happened when she tried to wake a snoozing Gus for his appointment—needless to say, it didn’t go too well.
The footage was shared on Sarah’s TikTok account (@prettypennidoggrooming) showing Gus sleeping on the sofa and snoring very loudly when she arrived at his home. As she tried to rouse the pug, he grumbled and didn’t seem too pleased, momentarily refusing to open his eyes.
Eventually, Gus succumbed to the inevitable and woke up enough just to let Sarah, from Canada, give him some belly scratches.
Since the clip was shared online, internet users can’t get enough of Gus’s loud snoring and refusal to get up. In just a matter of days, the clip has already amassed over 2 million views and more than 352,800 likes at the time of writing.
Newsweek contacted Sarah via email for comment.
It’s no secret that pugs have a certain penchant for relaxing and snoozing, as the American Kennel Club (AKC) highlights that they would happily spend most of their day snoozing on the sofa.
Indeed, sleep is certainly important for dogs of any age or breed, as they require so much of it. The website PetMD suggests that most dogs will typically sleep for around six to eight hours overnight when their owner sleeps, as well as anywhere between 10 and 18 hours during the day.
There are varying factors which can play a role in that too, including their age (as puppies and seniors need more sleep), their home life, and their breed. Working dogs, such as spaniels or golden retrievers, may not need as much sleep because they’re used to an active lifestyle. Pugs on the other hand are more prepared to work hard at staying relaxed.
If owners are concerned that their dog sleeps too much, PetMD recommends introducing more stimulation to their day. This could be through new toys, teaching them new tricks, or going on more walks outside.
The TikTok Reaction
After the video of Gus snoring went viral, he’s become quite the internet sensation and TikTok users are obsessed. Many people have lauded his laziness, which has led to more than 1,000 comments on the TikTok post so far.
One comment reads: “Gus said not today ma’am, we will need to reschedule.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “I’ve never seen a fresh loaf of bread snore before.”
Another person added: “Gus was like, just come back tomorrow.”
While one commenter joked: “Gus snores like he’s done a 16-hour shift.”
