LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office says a man was arrested last week on rape and domestic violence charges.
Luis Enrique Valencia, 23, originally from Mexico, was arrested and charged with first degree rape, second degree domestic violence assault and domestic violence strangulation or suffocation.
The sheriff’s office said on April 24, deputies responded to a 911 call in the 16000 block of Coffman Road regarding reports of physical and sexual assault. Authorities said when deputies arrived, they found the victim, who was bleeding from the head and had torn clothing, and also found Valencia.
According to the sheriff’s office, a preliminary investigation found that the victim had recently ended a relationship with Valencia, which they said reportedly enraged him. Authorities said that Valencia is accused of hitting the victim with a glass bottle, binding and choking her and then sexually assaulting her.
LCSO said the victim was able to escape to a bathroom and call 911.
The sheriff’s office said the victim was taken to a local hospital while Valencia was taken into custody. LCSO said investigators had obtained a warrant and searched the house, where they found evidence supporting the victim’s allegations.
LCSO said the case will require an Aniah’s Law hearing before Valencia can be granted bond. Authorities said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)has also placed an immigration detainer on Valencia.
