At this year’s Salone del Mobile, Knoll presented a selection of innovative designs by leading figures in the field of architecture, sculpture and interior design. Featured creations include Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee’s Biboni Sofa, Jonathan Muecke’s all-wood dining collection, Willo Perron’s Bun Lounge Chair and Ottoman, Joseph D’Urso’s reissued Occasional Table, as well as the updated Barcelona Collection, centered on Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s timeless design.

This isn’t the first time Knoll has brought back iconic designs by the renowned German-American architect, who was one of the key influential figures that shaped the minimalist Bauhaus design movement. The Barcelona Collection, first launched in 1929, embodies Mies van der Rohe’s philosophy of “less is more.” Traditionally, these pieces have always come in leather. But the new range now offers the Barcelona Chair, Stool and Couch in fabric upholstery as well as the ultra-matte onyx frame option.

Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee’s Biboni Sofa brings a sculptural sensibility to modern interiors. Its plush scallops and soft folds are designed to balance comfort and support, making it an inviting centerpiece when positioned away from walls. Similarly, Jonathan Muecke’s Wood Collection celebrates materiality and spatial dynamics. Using bold end-grain details and a single round wooden profile, Muecke redefines traditional dining furniture with an artistic edge.

Willo Perron’s Bun Lounge Chair and Ottoman push the boundaries of comfort and design. It boasts a cloud-like cushion with an airy sculptural base, juxtaposing weight and lightness to create something that is both visually striking and physically relaxing. Meanwhile, Joseph D’Urso’s reissued Occasional Tables integrates a polished steel construction and dual-level functionality, maintaining D’Urso’s signature blend of industrial aesthetics and timeless sophistication.
