A 9-year-old boy from Florida has caused hysterics online for the way he handled his newborn brother.
In a clip on TikTok, Luke, wearing a green shirt and backward cap, scooped the latest addition of the family out of the crib with the calm expertise of a seasoned dad.
His mom, Amanda (@amanda_arrows) wrote on the text overlay: “When your 9-year-old handles his baby brother like he’s already got three kids and a mortgage.” She also called it “middle child confidence.”
“[This] it was actually the very first time Luke had ever picked Leo up, and he did it so confidently, like a natural,” Amanda, 34, told Newsweek. “I did step in right away to adjust Leo’s neck support, but I was so touched by Luke’s care and excitement.”
Now 11, Luke is the middle child of a tight-knit trio of brothers along with Leo, now 3, and Gabriel, 14. Amanda and her husband Zachary told Newsweek that he’s kind, nurturing, and always quick to jump in and help. “He’s also funny—he loves making people laugh and lifting others up,” they said.
The clip, which has been viewed 6.7 million times, captured an unbreakable bond between siblings, and for Luke and Leo, their bond started from day one.
“Luke has been Leo’s biggest cheerleader and protector,” the mom of three said. “We homeschool, and I truly believe that being together every day has strengthened the bond between all three of my boys. Watching them grow up close, as both brothers and best friends, has been one of the greatest blessings from God in our lives.”
Thousands of other TikTok users commented on the viral clip, many of whom were in agreement with Amanda’s observation of her middle son.
“Why is he picking up that baby better like he has 12 kids and counting,” one user laughed.
“Some people are born to be nurturing,” another added.
A third commenter joked, “That dude is at least 36. Everyone knows him at the hardware store and has good credit.”
And Amanda stands by what she wrote in her caption. “It was because of how casually and confidently Luke handled it, like he was already a full-fledged grown-up juggling a newborn, a diaper bag, and a mortgage payment,” she said. “It made me laugh and made my heart so full all at once.”
For parents Amanda and Zachary, they couldn’t be more proud of their son. “Luke reminds me so much of his father, who is a hardworking, steady presence and an incredible example of what it means to lead a family with love,” Amanda said. “That caring spirit really shines in how Luke treats his brothers.”
