Insta360 has introduced the X5, its latest 360° action camera, with significant enhancements over its predecessor, reinforcing the company’s position in the competitive action camera market.
The X5 boasts the largest sensor Insta360 has incorporated into a handheld consumer 360° camera: a 1/1.28-inch sensor that the company claims delivers “a dramatic leap in image quality” across all resolutions, including 8K video at 30 frames per second. The camera features a “Triple AI Chip” system, which powers advanced capabilities like PureVideo, a new mode optimized for low-light recording, making the X5 adaptable to diverse lighting conditions.
Insta360 calls the X5 “the toughest 360° camera ever,” highlighting lenses crafted from a new type of ultra-durable glass. The company also touts a “first-of-its-kind replaceable lens system,” which it says sets a new benchmark for action cameras by offering greater flexibility and durability compared with competitors.
Other upgrades include a built-in wind guard for clearer audio in challenging conditions, an extended battery life of up to three hours, and enhanced waterproofing, now rated to a depth of 49 feet. Software improvements include InstaFrame Mode, which captures both an auto-framed, shareable flat video and a full 360° video for later editing. The redesigned Insta360 app offers more intuitive editing tools and integrates with the company’s cloud service for seamless connectivity.
“The X5 solves real challenges for creators,” said JK Liu, Insta360’s founder. “From replaceable lenses to AI-powered low-light shooting, we’ve built a rugged, high-performance camera that captures epic moments effortlessly.”
To mark the launch, Insta360 hosted a pop-up event at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, drawing hundreds of fans eager to experience the X5 firsthand.
The Insta360 X5 is available now on the company’s website, priced at £519.99 ($549.99 in the United States).
