EXCLUSIVE: Bradley Whitford (The Handmaid’s Tale) has closed a deal to join Reminders of Him, Universal’s adaptation of the novel by It Ends With Us scribe Colleen Hoover.

Whitford joins a cast led by Maika Monroe, which also includes Tyriq Withers, Rudy Pankow, Lauren Graham, and Nicholas Duvernay, as previously announced.

First published in 2022, Reminders of Him tells the story of Kenna Rowan (Monroe), a young mother who returns to her hometown after serving five years in prison for a tragic accident. Determined to reunite with her daughter, who is being raised by her late boyfriend’s parents, Kenna faces judgment and resistance from the community, but nonetheless fights for redemption, forgiveness, and a second chance at love and motherhood.

Whitford plays Patrick Landry, father of Kenna’s late boyfriend, Scotty, who guardianship of her daughter following her incarceration, along with his wife, Grace (Graham).

Vanessa Caswill is directing from a script by Hoover and Lauren Levine, with the latter two producing through their production company, Heartbones Entertainment, alongside Gina Matthews through her Little Engine Productions. Robin Fisichella is executive producing, with Director of Production Development Christine Sun overseeing the project for the studio.

A three-time Emmy winner, Whitford won one of those statuettes for his role as Commander Joseph Lawrence in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, which returned for its sixth and final season earlier this month. Soon, the actor will be seen starring opposite wife Amy Landecker in her indie romantic comedy, For Worse, a title he also produced, which is coming off of its premiere at SXSW.

Upcoming, Whitford also has Death by Lightning, Netflix’s historical miniseries from creator Mike Makowsky. He’s represented by Greenlight Management and Production, Gersh and Peikoff Mahan Law.
