Details on Loop 202 construction
The project is adding more freeway lanes and interchange upgrades. Construction will take place along 8 miles of the Loop 202 between the Loop 101 Price Freeway and Val Vista Drive in Chandler and Gilbert.
The reconstruction of the westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Gilbert Road is in its final stage and is scheduled to reopen to traffic on Saturday, according to ADOT.
This project is funded in part by Proposition 400, a dedicated half-cent sales tax that Maricopa County voters approved in 2004.
The renovation of the Loop 202 freeway is meant to help relieve traffic congestion due to the Valley’s growing population. Maricopa County has one of the fastest growing populations in the country.
It is expected that the population will increase by nearly 30% between 2020 and 2040, according to ADOT.
The freeway construction project started in August 2024 and is scheduled to be completed in 2027, according to ADOT.
