FRIDAY MIDDAY: Distribution execs across town are going nuts about Warner Bros’ Sinners. The conservative estimate is that it lands with a $30M second weekend at 3,347, but don’t be shocked if there’s much more, potentially even a -17% to -26% ease ($35M-$40M) as the demos for the films broadens out well beyond horror fans. Sinners second Friday is $10M so far, -48% from its opening day/previews. On the low end, Sinners propels to $107.5M by Sunday, and it’s close to soaring past Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s second collaboration, Creed ($109.7M).

All of this spells for the best final weekend of April post Covid, besting 2023’s $100.2M when Super Mario Bros was in its fourth frame earning $40.8M. The top five titles only look to clear around $100.5M to $110.5M alone.

Watch on Deadline

Amazon MGM Studios/Artists Equity’s The Accountant 2 is coming in at $9.9M today for a 3-day that looks like $23M at 3,610 theaters, just slightly ahead of the first movie’s debut.

Disney’s 20th anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith moved its way into third with $10M today, for what could be a $18M-$20M 3-day at 2,775 locations. Episode III opened to $108.4M back in the day in May 2005 and went on to make $380M at the domestic box office. This weekend will get the Hayden Christensen-Ewan McGregor-Samuel L. Jackson movie closer to the four century mark. Disney has 4DX and a handful of PLFs for Sith.

Warner Bros/Legendary’s A Minecraft Movie has $5M today, and a fourth weekend of $18M at 3,841, -55% for a running cume by Sunday of $375.2M.

Sony/Screen Gems’ R-rated Until Dawn at 3,055 sites is seeing around $3M today and has an estimated opening around $7M for the $15M horror production.

FRIDAY AM: Disney’s re-release of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith could upset the box office chart this weekend, the movie banking $3.4M in previews last night ahead of its limited one-week engagement. We had heard the pic, which has had limited promotion, mostly in-theater, based on presales, could do $20M+. Does it force Amazon MGM Studios’ The Accountant 2 out of No. 2?

Meanwhile that Ben Affleck Artists Equity feature did $2.5M from all previews including an April 15 “Tax Day” screening. The sequel is eyeing a $20M+ opening. Comps for Accountant 2 preview wise are Den of Thieves 2 ($1.5M) and the Jason Statham movie The Beekeeper which did $2.4M strictly in Thursday night showtimes. The original Accountant in 2016 did $1.35M in previews before posting a $9M Friday, 3-day of $24.7M. The Accountant 2‘s Rotten Tomatoes reviews stand at 76% certified fresh with the popcorn score at 92%. The Accountant 2 was made for $80M, much higher than your standard meat and potato dude action films like Den of Thieves 2 or Statham’s Beekeeper (both $40M before P&A).

Meanwhile, Warner Bros’ Ryan Coogler directed, Michael B. Jordan starring Sinners did $6M yesterday ending its first week with $77.5M, which is higher than the first week of The Conjuring ($61.7M), and significantly higher than the first week of Get Out ($49.8M).

Trafalgar with Sony Music Vision has the re-release of Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII at 2,550 theaters across 64 countries. In North America alone, the concert pic charted $1.29M last night from 654 locations.

Screen Gems’ R-rated horror time loop film, Until Dawn did $1 million in Thursday night previews that began at 4PM at 2,630 locations. The movie from Shazam! franchise and Annabelle: Creation filmmaker David F. Sandberg is eyeing $8M-$9M off a $15M production cost. Reviews for Until Dawn aren’t horrible at 62% fresh.
