Canneseries Jury President Norman Reedus has not been able to attend the fest due to work commitments.
The Walking Dead star was not present on last night’s Pink Carpet, which opened the fest, and his place as President has been taken by jury member Jeff Russo, we are told. A Canneseries spokeswoman confirmed the news. Reedus’ reps have been contacted for comment.
Last night’s Pink Carpet instead featured other members of the jury along with French actor Marie Colomb, who won the Madame Figaro Rising Star Award, a gong that last year went to Fallout’s Ella Purnell. However, there was no talent present from The Agency, the show which opened Canneseries, as that project starring Michael Fassbender and Jeffrey Wright has just rolled cameras on Season 2.
Russo is now leading a jury that comprises Pachinko creator Soo Hugh, César Domboy, Louise Bourgoin and Lola Dueñas. They are overseeing a competition that includes Iceland’s Reykjavik Fusion starring Severance‘s Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, who is making the trip, Norway’s A Better Man and South Korea’s S Line.
Watch on Deadline
Reedus is well known for playing Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead. That show is being given a special Canneseries screening tonight for spin-off Dead City Season 2. The star of the spin-off, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, along with producer Scott Gimple, is in town and will walk the Pink Carpet later.
Yesterday, artistic director Albin Lewi told us Canneseries has passed the test in recent years of “convincing American blockbusters to come” with flying colors, as he reeled off shows like Fallout, Silo and Franklin that have previously premiered at the fest.
