2025 NFL Draft: Best Picks From Round 2 Include All-American Pass-Rusher

The first two rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft are in the books and there has been plenty of surprises to this point.

Perhaps the biggest surprise has been the slide of Shedeur Sanders. The talented quarterback out of Colorado was widelye expected to be a first-round pick, but wasn’t picked in the first or second rounds.

Several other players fell as well, like edge-rushers Donovan Ezeiruaku and Mike Green and safety Nick Emmanwori. However, some players were also drafted above their projections, like quarterback Tyler Shough.

It’s still early and we don’t know exactly which picks will pan out or not. However, we can get a good idea of which teams got the best value and which teams didn’t.

Now, let’s identify the worst picks from the second round. These aren’t bad players, but are either reaches or odd fits with their new teams.

38. New England Patriots: TreVeyon Henderson, RB, Ohio State

With the Patriots’ second pick, the team opted to go with a running back that has good-not-great speed and average elusiveness.

TreVeyon Henderson was part of a committee with Quinshon Judkins, so there’s plenty of tread left on his tires. The running back is also solid as a pass-catcher and can hold his own as a blocker.

Still, this feels early for the Patriots to take a running back. The team has so many needs, including at wide receiver, and Luther Burden III was still on the board when the Patriots picked Henderson.

The Ohio State product could be a solid NFL running back, but it wasn’t a pressing need.

40. New Orleans Saints: Tyler Shough, QB, Louisville

Many mock drafts have had the Saints taking a quarterback, but I’m not sure if anyone expected the team to take Tyler Shough in the third round.

The most interesting part of this pick is the fact that the team took Shough over Shedeur Sanders. Shough has great NFL size and a strong arm, but he struggled to stay healthy in college and doesn’t have great athleticism.

Shough could have a higher floor than Sanders, but he definitely doesn’t have a higher ceiling. It’s surprising to see the Saints take Shough over Sanders, especially when Derek Carr’s injury status could impact his availability for the 2025 season.

54. Green Bay Packers: Anthony Belton, OL, North Carolina State

This was a puzzling pick from the Packers. The team spent big to bring in guard Aaron Banks this offseason and drafted tackle Jordan Morgan in the first round last season.

The Packers need a cornerback desperately, and there were great options available when the team made this pick. Trey Amos and Shavon Revel Jr. were just two potential corner options who were still available after being projected to be first-round picks.

Belton isn’t a bad player, but this is a poor use of draft capital. The Packers already have a solid offensive line meaning Belton might not start this year or next.
