Crikvenica | $1.08 million (€950,000)
A restored stone villa with original details in the countryside
The town of Crikvenica, on Croatia’s Adriatic coast, is 20 miles south of Rijeka, a city of about 100,000 that shares cultural, historic and trade histories with Hungary, Slovenia and Northeast Italy. Crikvenica is derived from the Croatian word for “church,” which refers to the 1412 church of the Order of Saint Paul the First Hermit (the Pauline Fathers), a monastic order of the Catholic Church founded in Hungary.
The town has been popular with visitors since the 19th century, when tourism developed around its Hydrotherapy Institute. Today, Crikvenica is still known for its thalassotherapy spas.
Zagreb, Croatia’s capital and largest city, is about 100 miles northeast.
