Curing vampirism in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered can only be done via two methods. One is a lengthy quest, so you’ll likely want to take the other approach.
After you’ve been hit by a vampire, there’s a chance you’ll gain the disease Porphyric Hemophilia, which will drain your fatigue and eventually turn you into a vampire. If you can cure the disease within three days (72 hours of in-game time), you can stop the vampire-turning process, but if not, you’ll turn into a vampire after the next time you rest.
Becoming a vampire does have its perks — you’ll acquire a lot of bonuses like resistances, skills, attributes, and abilities — but you won’t be able to step outside during the day.
If the vampire life is not for you, here’s how to cure vampirism in Oblivion Remastered.
How to cure vampirism in Oblivion Remastered
Before curing vampirism, you’ll need to make sure you’re actually a vampire. Open your “Character” tab and press the button for “Show Active Effects” or open the “Magic” tab and switch to the tab with the skull image. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and check to see if you have a bunch of active effects as a result of vampire skills, attributes, or even just the vampirism effect.
Once you have those you’re free to start the quest of curing your vampirism. If you don’t have any of these yet, but have contracted Porphyric Hemophelia, you might still have time to cure the disease and prevent the turning process.
Additionally, if you cure your vampirism, you cannot become a vampire again without the use of mods or console commands. If you’re set on curing your vampirism, there are two ways to get rid of it:
- Completing the “Vampire Cure” quest
- Visiting the Font of Renewal.
We recommend to skip the “Vampire Cure” quest and head straight to the Font of Renewal. The quest can be a long and tedious process, while the Font of Renewal is easy to access and much faster.
Font of Renewal location
The Font of Renewal can be found at the Deepscorn Hollow, an island in the south eastern corner of the map. If you don’t have any map markers in its immediate vicinity, we recommend fast traveling to a map marker in Leyawiin and making the short trek to the island.
After you’ve stepped foot on the island, you’ll receive the “Deepscorn Hollow” quest, indicating you’re in the right place. If you set the quest as your active quest, the quest marker will point you towards some submerged ruins on the southern coast of the island, which might be confusing until you realize there is a hidden underwater entrance.
Dive in between the broken-down buildings to find a large log sticking out of the ground. On the opposite side of the log, you’ll find an opening and a secret door leading to an underground lair. However, you should know that the other side of the door is still underwater, so once you head inside, you’ll need to quickly resurface to gather your breath.
Once inside, enter the west door leading to the Deepscorn Cloister. Head down the stairs to the south to find the Font of Renewal, which looks like a stone pillar inside a pool of water. If you try to interact with the Font of Renewal now, it’ll tell you that you’re not carrying any purgeblood salts.
Luckily for you, in one of the corners of the room, you’ll find a Purgeblood Crystal Formation, which will provide you with one purgeblood salt. Take the salt to the Font of Renewal and interact with it to cure your vampirism.
