President Trump will return to Michigan on Tuesday to hold a celebratory rally in Macomb County to mark his first 100 days in office, the White House confirmed.
The last time Trump swung through the Michigan was on the eve of Election Day, when he held his final rally of the 2024 cycle in Grand Rapids.
“President Trump is excited to return to the great state of Michigan next Tuesday, where he will rally in Macomb County to celebrate the FIRST 100 DAYS!” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced, confirming a report from the Detroit News.
Trump, 78, had bested former Vice President Kamala Harris in the battleground state by about 1.4 percentage points, after previously winning the Wolverine State in 2016 and losing it in 2020.
Earlier this month, Trump met with Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer at the White House, where she pressed him to keep Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County, something to which he seemed receptive.
During that meeting, Whitmer infamously tried to block her face with blue folders after being nervous that photographers snapped photos of her next to Trump. She later expressed regret over the faux pas.
“I think we’re going to be successful, governor. I think we’ll be very successful there,” Trump told Whitmer about Selfridge.
“We’ve gotten some good feedback from Pete Hegseth and the Department of Defense, and talking about F-16s and talking about F-35s, and, you know, et cetera. It’s a great piece of property. It’s a great location, and it’s a great state. So I think we’re going to come back with a very good answer.”
Before his planned trip to Michigan, Trump will fly to Rome for the Saturday funeral of Pope Francis, who died Monday at age 88.
“Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome. We look forward to being there!” Trump announced on Truth Social.
Trump is famous for relishing his rallies.
During the Michigan rally, he will likely tout some of the big accomplishments of his first term, such as his efforts to stem the border crisis, make the government more efficient, renegotiate trade deals with foreign countries and more.
In Congress, Republicans are working to draft Trump’s marquee agenda package featuring tax cuts, border security, heightened defense spending, bolstered energy supply and more.
GOP leaders have been hoping to get a bill to Trump’s desk by Memorial Day but have not yet released key details of their plan, such as the specific spending cuts they are eyeing.
