First kisses can be awkward — and it sure sounds like Kelly Clarkson‘s was.
The Kelly Clarkson Show was reminded of the moment on on a recent episode, where she sat down with Hell of a Summer director and star Finn Wolfhard.
“Hell of a Summer, I have to start with that. It’s based on personal experiences, right?” she asked.
Wolfhard told Clarkson “yes and no,” teasing that “people are getting murdered in it…so hopefully not too personal.”
However, Clarkson knew what Wolfhard was getting at, adding that the film deals with moments like the “awkward first kiss.”
“My first kiss was horrible, too,” she revealed, elaborating that “it was like he was searching for something.”
As Clarkson reeled in disgust, Wolfhard joked that the kisser in question was “on some kind of journey,” prompting Clarkson to quip that she “was not on the same one.”
As for Wolfhard’s film, he explained that it is “a coming-of-age teen comedy that’s sort of masked as a slasher movie.”
“It’s scary, but it’s also just about… [it’s] funny, and trying to move on with your life sort of, and become an adult, like a young adult,” he continued. “So yeah, but there is a lot of awkward moments in it that are kind of…”
Clarkson chimed in, “That everyone will relate to.”
Wolfhard replied, “Yeah, I think so.”
Funnily enough, Wolfhard’s first on-screen kiss was on Stranger Things with co-star Millie Bobby Brown, who deemed him a “lousy kisser” while hooked up to a lie detector test for Vanity Fair in November 2022. However, Wolfhard addressed the criticism on The Drew Barrymore Show in January 2023, admitting that he “didn’t know how to approach it in any way.”
“It just was like, ‘You’re gonna do this thing and at the end of the take you’re gonna kiss her.’ And then… so I just like… kind of just like… almost like… headbutted her,” he teased.
