PHOENIX — The city of Scottsdale announced on Monday that it appointed a permanent police chief.
Joe LeDuc is the new chief of police of the Scottsdale Police Department, according to a Facebook post from the Scottsdale Police Department.
Why was LeDuc chosen to be Scottsdale police chief?
Scottsdale City Manager Greg Caton selected LeDuc for the role. LeDuc has been serving as interim chief of police since January.
LeDuc joined the department as a police officer in 1991. He went on to serve as a patrol officer, property crimes detective and homicide detective. He was also on the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force.
LeDuc was promoted to oversee the special victim’s unit, was assigned to the internal affairs unit as a sergeant and was a lieutenant for the special investigations section.
He was also a commander who oversaw two police districts and the municipal jail.
In 2021, LeDuc was promoted to assistant chief of police. He worked alongside former Police Chief Jeff Walther to serve the community by working with all the city divisions.
LeDuc received many accolades for his leadership, including multiple Police Superior Performance Awards, the Meritorious Service Award, the Community Policing Award, the Marksmanship Award and more.
