Sliving the “sweet” life.
Paris Hilton says her mom, Kathy Hilton, advised her not to let fame go to her head when she starred on “The Simple Life” in the early aughts.
“My mom always taught me the importance of giving back,” the hotel heiress, 44, told the audience while being honored as “Woman of the Year” at Los Angeles magazine’s LA Woman Luncheon Friday.
“I will never forget the night before ‘The Simple Life’ aired my mom told me, ‘Paris, when the show airs on Fox tomorrow, your life is going to change forever and I always want you to remain the same sweet and down-to-earth girl you are and never forget that,’” she recalled.
Paris explained she’s always kept Kathy’s words “close to [her] heart.”
“I’ve been in this town a long time,” Paris added during the Q&A with Los Angeles magazine Editor-in-Chief Jasmin Rosemberg. “I’ve seen a lot and I’ve seen a lot of fame and things get to people’s heads and that’s something I never want to be like.
“I’m really grateful that I have these amazing parents that raised me to be the woman that I am today.”
Paris also gave a shout-out to her grandmother, telling the crowd that her and her mom shaped the woman she is today.
“[They] both just have the biggest hearts and always make me laugh and have the best time. They are both incredible mothers and my role models,” she said.
Paris was honored at the event, which took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, for her relief efforts following the Palisades and Eaton Fires earlier this year.
Despite losing her $8.4 million Malibu home in the devastation, which cumulatively burned more than 57,000 acres across Los Angeles, Paris worked with various organizations including Pasadena Humane Society, Baby2Baby and Altadena Girls.
She also raised over $800,000 for Los Angeles wildfire relief efforts through her nonprofit 11:11 Media Impact.
“LA is just one of the best cities in the world and I love it so much,” Paris said at the luncheon, which was also attended by Scheana Shay and Heather McDonald.
Paris learned of her home’s fate while watching TV over breakfast with husband Carter Reum and their two children son, Phoenix, 2, and daughter London, 1.
“We were watching the news and all of a sudden my husband goes, ‘Oh my God, look at the TV,’ and I looked and I could just see our blue door and the rest of it was just ashes. It was just shocking, heartbreaking, just thinking of all the memories we built there together,” she said.
“But right away I started thinking about people who have lost so much more and my heart was breaking for all the moms and all of their children who had no where to sleep that night and who had lost everything,” she added.
