COLBERT COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A man and woman are both in the Colbert County jail after they led deputies on a chase and fired shots at them.
News 19 obtained exclusive video that shows the car, driven by Rodney Ivey, up in flames near the intersection of Highway 43 and Vandiver Hollow Road near Littleville.
Sheriff Eric Balentine told News 19 about the incident.
“There were two people inside the vehicle, male and female. They exited the vehicle and shots were fired at the deputies at that time. The subject ran into the wood line. The vehicle itself caught on fire,” Balentine said.
No one was hit by those gunshots. Colbert County Sheriff Eric Balentine said Ivey and a woman were found close to the vehicle and both were arrested.
“The female had a couple of injuries she required. She had a laceration to her hand, and she went to the hospital. She was treated,” Balentine said.
Balentine said his team found over 50 grams of methamphetamine and a large amount of marijuana. Sheriff Balentine also said this is not the first time they’ve had a run-in with Ivey.
“This subject has a history of attempted murder in 2014. He was convicted of attempted murder in this county so we got a really bad person off the road yesterday,” Balentine said.
Sheriff Balentine said Ivey is being charged with attempted murder for shooting at a deputy, drug trafficking and trying to elude.
