MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) — Muscle Shoals High School Senior, Kate Scales, recently won Governor Kay Ivey’s App Challenge Contest.

Scales won the contest for the design and creation of her application called “Tutor Me”, an app that allows students to sign up and schedule tutors in a more efficient way.

Scales had to use her computer science and application knowledge, as well as coding, to make the app come alive to enter the contest.

Scales then had to make a video to talk about what she created and how it works, and why she wanted to make her app about tutoring. Scales tells News 19 why she created a tutor app and why it’s so important.

“I think it’s important because so many people do you need tutors at some point and some of them aren’t bold enough to go ask around or ask their teachers for a list of available tutors so this would make it pretty much anonymous or easy to connect with other people,” Scales said.

Scales also tells News 19 that she plans to attend the University of Alabama in the fall to study computer science.

This is the second app Scales has created for the classroom. She also created a mental health app that allows anyone struggling with mental health, an easy and anonymous way to seek help.
