Ask readers to list Emily Henry books in order of their most to least favorite, and you’ll get a different answer each time. In fact, I’d argue that your number one says as much about your views on love and romance as your zodiac sign. (I’m a Book Lovers sun, Funny Story rising, FYI).

The author may have started her career writing YA, but she’s since become BookTok famous for her bestselling romance novels. She has a knack for staying true to the genre while adding enough subtle twists to the story that it feels unexpected and new. Add in the kind of settings you want to escape into and main characters you actually like to spend time with, and you have the perfect formula for, well, a Beach Read.

But if you think it’s hard to rank Emily Henry books now, just wait. Several are being made into movies and TV series, which will surely change fans’ opinions as they interact with their favorite stories in new ways. On top of that, her latest, Great Big Beautiful Life, will be released on April 22 and is expected to become an instant New York Times bestseller.

So, we’re simply going to list Emily Henry books in order of newest to oldest. If you’re new to the author, start with whichever one speaks to you first. It doesn’t really matter—because once you pick up one, you’re not going to want to stop there. Might as well add all to cart anyway!

She’s the It Author of the decade.

Great Big Beautiful Life (2025)

In Henry’s latest, out April 22, two novelists compete for the chance to write a once-in-a-lifetime biography of a infamous heiress. Just one minor inconvenience: all that “yearning pulsing between them every time they’re in the same room.”

Funny Story (2024)

Daphne finds herself needing a place to live after her fiancé, Peter, reveals that, sorry, he’s actually in love with his childhood best friend, Petra. With no friends or family close by, her best—and kind of only—option is to move in with Petra’s ex, Miles. The two are total opposites on the surface, but nothing bonds a pair quite like heartbreak.

Happy Place (2023)

Everyone thought Harriet and Wyn were the perfect couple—so much so that neither seems able to break the news that they’ve broken up to their best friends. And so, they find themselves pretending to still be together months later rather than ruin the group’s annual getaway to Maine. Not complicated at all.

Book Lovers (2022)

You know those Hallmark Christmas movies where the main character visits a small town, finds true love with a gentle inn owner, and breaks up with their career-obsessed partner back in the big city? Nora, a talented—and, sure, ruthless—literary agent, is always been the one getting dumped in that scenario. So when her sister begs her to spend a month in the charming town of Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, she agrees. Maybe this is her chance to finally become the heroine of her own story (if only it were that easy).

People We Meet on Vacation (2021)

Despite being total opposites, best friends Poppy and Alex have always traveled well together. So much so, that they take a big week-long vacation together every summer. That is, they did, until one so disastrous that they stopped talking for two years. Wanting to rekindle, Poppy reaches out to Alex and invites him in one more trip—and he accepts. (Our advice? Read this one on the earlier side, before the Netflix adaptation comes out.)

Beach Read (2020)

Two novelists with totally different writing styles—Augustus is all literary doom and gloom, while January is known for her steamy romances—find themselves sharing neighboring beach houses for a summer. It should be the perfect setting for a writer’s retreat, but they’re both in a creative rut. So, they come up with a plan: Spend the summer writing in each other’s style and see what happens. Will they fall in love in the process? Maybe, but I’m not here to spoil a happy ending.

Hello Girls (2019)

If you’re just here for the Emily Henry romance novels, then stop scrolling now. But if you’d like to be a completist, don’t skip this excellent Thelma and Louise-style tale that Henry co-authored with Brittany Cavallaro, who writes the New York Times bestselling Charlotte Holmes series.

When the Sky Fell on Splendor (2019)

This YA novel has been described as The Serpent King meets Stranger Things—an apt comparison for a story about a group of friends in small-town Ohio who encounter a strange, mysterious cosmic event that’ll change their lives forever.

A Million Junes (2017)

It’s Romeo and Juliet, with a supernatural twist, in this love story between the daughter and son of two families with a long-standing feud. Is their bond enough to break a centuries-old curse? You’ll have read to find out, duh.

A Million Junes by Emily Henry

The Love That Split the World (2016)

Though technically categorized as young adult, you can still see the skilled romance writer Henry would eventually become in her debut novel, about a young woman who will go to any length—even traveling between different realities—in order to save the boy she loves.
