A San Gabriel Valley man under surveillance for allegedly brandishing a weapon and making criminal threats was arrested Tuesday after leading police on in a pursuit that spanned several Los Angeles Freeways, authorities announced.
In a news release, officials with the Alhambra Police Department said detectives were watching a male suspect just after 11 a.m. due to reports of potential threats he made a day prior.
When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect in the area of 2121 West Main Street, the man refused to pull over and a pursuit was initiated.
“The pursuit continued onto multiple freeways in Los Angeles County, and with the support of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Helicopter, Officers safely tracked the suspect’s movements without escalating danger on the freeways,” police said.
In a residential Los Angeles neighborhood, the man abandoned his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
Alhambra police, along with LAPD and California Highway Patrol officers set up a perimeter and conducted a coordinated search leading to the suspect’s arrest in the 400 block of South New Hampshire Avenue in L.A.’s Koreatown neighborhood.
In a photo posted to Alhambra PD’s Instagram account, a K9 officer and his dog are seen posing in front what appears to be an unloaded semi-automatic 9mm on the sidewalk, presumably recovered from the suspect, though the firearm was not listed in the news release.
