French animation studio Miyu Productions has announced the production of Daisy’s Life, an animated feature film based on the novel Hinagiku no Jinsei by celebrated Japanese author Banana Yoshimoto. The project is a collaboration with ame pippin, a new studio founded by renowned animator Masaaki Yuasa, known for his boundary-pushing works such as The Tatami Galaxy, Devilman Crybaby and DAN DA DAN under his other studio, Science SARU. Yuasa will direct the film, promising a production infused with his signature surreal style and emotionally impactful storytelling.

The novel, serialized by Gentosha Bunko from 1998 to 2000, included illustrations by acclaimed Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara, who also serves as the character designer for the animated adaptation. Meanwhile, Sachiko Tanaka writes the screenplay, bringing her expertise in crafting emotionally rich narratives that explore societal challenges and human relationships.

The story centers on Daisy, a young girl embarking on a journey of self-healing while facing numerous challenges and uncovering hidden truths. With themes of resilience and renewal, the original novel sought to inspire hope among young readers by highlighting the importance of dreams and new beginnings. Yoshimoto also addressed the shared struggles of younger generations in Japan and Korea, emphasizing her intent to provide guidance and comfort during uncertain times.

Set to release in 2026, Daisy’s Life will mark the first feature film produced by ame pippin. This collaboration brings together celebrated creatives from literature, animation and visual arts, creating anticipation for a film that combines artistic depth with emotionally powerful storytelling.
