James Marsden is becoming the nicest kid in town as he is now officially joining the cast of Your Friends and Neighbors Season 2.
On Tuesday, Apple TV+ announced that the actor — who most recently shocked and wowed audiences as the murdered President Cal Bradford alongside Sterling K. Brown in Hulu’s Paradise — will play a major role in the second season of Jon Hamm and Jonathan Tropper’s new drama. The news comes as Season 1 just dropped its first two episodes on the streaming platform Friday.
The show follows Andrew “Coop” Cooper (Hamm), a disgraced hedge fund manager in Westmont Village, New York, who turns to stealing from his wealthy neighbors in order to support the lifestyle he and his children have become accustomed to. While the show only recently premiered, Apple TV+ renewed the series for Season 2 back in November and Season 2 is currently in production.
In an Instagram Story, Marsden confirmed his casting by sharing a screengrab of a Deadline article spilling the news, writing “there goes the neighborhood,” along with an excited emoji.
It’s been a busy few months for the Hairspray actor, who also premiered Sonic the Hedgehog 3 alongside Keanu Reeves, Ben Schwartz, Krysten Ritter, and Jim Carrey in December, and was more recently announced to be returning for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday. His role in the latter film has not been confirmed but is almost certainly a return to his X-Men character, Scott Summers, a.k.a. Cyclops, from the FOX films of the early 2000s.
As for his part in Your Friends and Neighbors, details of Marsden’s role are being kept under wraps at this time, although Decider can confirm he will be a series regular. It’s an exciting update for the cast and crew who are already hard at work on giving the world more episodes.
In March, Decider sat down with Hamm to talk about the show and asked about the early Season 2 renewal, which he said is an honor and something the entire cast and the producing team do not take for granted.
“The fact that we have a second season might lead you to believe that everything works out for Coop okay,” he explained. “It’s a great honor to be picked up so early in the existence of the show, it says a lot. It’s the first time Apple has really done that. It definitely is a feather in our cap and also a nod to the fact that we completed our assignment in a very compelling way.”
Season 2 of Your Friends and Neighbors is expected to hit Apple TV+ in 2026. In the meantime, check out the first two episodes of Your Friends and Neighbors Season 1, which are currently streaming on Apple TV+. New episodes release Fridays.
